The following article was published in our NCGS May 1981 Newsletter. It was part of a series where members published short biographies about themselves.
“Beverly Elizabeth Bowes Henchbarger #24 [likely her NCGS Membership number] was born January 4, 1924 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania and raised by her grandmother. After completing school she was married to a sailor during World Warr II. In January of 1946, Beverly came to Niagara Falls (where her husband works), and started a family. Daughter Marvin born in 1947, daughter Tracy born in 1952, and son William Augustus III was born in 1963.
In order to make way for the Power Project, in August of 1958, her house was physically picked up and moved to the Town of Niagara by the New York State Power Authority.
In between raising children, Beverly has been active in community and church work. She served three years on the Niagara Wheatfield School Board, and is a member of the Town of Niagara Lioness, Town of Niagara Historical Society. She has been in the Girl Scouts and various Parent-School groups, the NON Club for 25 years, and of course, the Niagara County Genealogical Society. Beverly works part-time, as of January 1980, for the Niagara County Office of the Aging.
She just started attending an adult education course on Calligraphy. Her proudest achievement was becoming a Deacon the 1st of March in the Niagara United Presbyterian Church.
Beverly started her genealogy about twenty-five years ago and is progressing very slowly BUT surely.”
