Cemetery Saturday: Oakwood Cemetery

Oakwood Cemetery in located on Portage Ave. in Niagara Falls, NY. According to the cemetery’s website, they were established in 1852 and have over 22,000 burials within their 18.5 acres.

The cemetery’s website (https://oakwoodniagara.org) is very well done and full of information including histories, events, pages about their famous residents, and much more.

The cemetery has a map and brochure outside of the Visitor Center if you happen to visit when they are not open.

The cemetery has signs to mark the various sections and they have also added markers for some of their more famous residents.

The Niagara County Genealogical Society’s (NCGS) Library does have some information within the cemetery books for Oakwood. There are 8 pages listing people buried within the cemetery that served in the military. There is no indication from where this list came from, but my assumption would be a DAR resource.
