Niagara County Genealogical Society
The Niagara County Genealogical Society (NCGS) is an all-volunteer organization created in January 1979 to advance the study of genealogy. We are chartered by the NY Board of Regents as a non-profit educational group.
Whether your ancestors settled in Niagara County or used it as a stopping-off place, we have a rich history of people pushing west to explore our great country. Did your ancestors use the Erie Canal and the Niagara River to move west? They may have left their genealogical imprint here!
We offer many and free resources such as visiting and researching in our library. Our library is on the second floor of the Niagara Historical Center, 215 Niagara Street, Lockport, NY. We love visitors, however library hours depend on volunteer availability; normal hours of operation are from 1 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but please call or email ahead of time to confirm we will be open. Members receive special perks! Those perks include access to our Members-Only Area of the website which has over 10,000 digitized surname files, digitized resources and records, past program recordings and so much more! Each year, members also receive a free look-up in our Look-Up Program conducted by one of our experienced librarians. Membership is open to anyone, and the small membership fee helps to expand our resources.
