The Niagara County Genealogical Society (NCGS) is an all-volunteer organization created in January 1979 to advance the study of genealogy. We are chartered by the NY Board of Regents as a non-profit educational group.
Whether your ancestors settled in Niagara County or used it as a stopping-off place, we have a rich history of people pushing west to explore our great country. Did your ancestors use the Erie Canal and the Niagara River to move west? They may have left their genealogical imprint here!
We offer many free resources, and membership perks include a quarterly newsletter, a look-up program and many locally held lectures throughout the year. Recently we have added Zoom lectures so our out-of-area members have been able to attend as well. Membership is open to anyone, and the small membership fee helps to expand our resources. Our first-rate genealogical library is on the second floor of the Niagara Historical Center, 215 Niagara Street, Lockport, NY. We love visitors, however library hours depend on volunteer availability; normal hours of operation are from 1 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but please call or email ahead of time to confirm we will be open. Please email us at info@niagaragenealogy.org with any questions.
